Found in north-central MA in an early estate along w/many other fabulous early New England antiques, fine art, primitives & an assortment of other antique household objects. When it comes to early American painted wooden furniture & accessories, there's a color coveted & held dear by advanced collectors of Americana, primitives, hand painted American furniture & decorative objects, often found in the northeast & in particular New England, & that's decidedly the color blue & specifically robin egg blue. Only dry salmon (chalky red) is a close second to blue. This particular blue isn't robin egg blue but is rather a weathered, nat oxidized, aged bluish-green & whose color has been hvly influenced by prev handling & exp to light & air for some 170-190 yrs. It's almost entirely as it was orig constituted, albeit w/some added nails on the lid int cleats. Rear hinges prev changed out w/brass ones. Fine.

    more or less. It's almost entirely as it was originally constituted, albeit with some added nails on the lid's interior cleats. The interior is unpainted and is dry, as is the bottom. Although not found with its original key, the front lock hardware is original, intact and present. Only the original rear hinges were previously replaced at some prior juncture with brass ones. The painted finish has original, dry, matte surfaces. Estate fresh and absolutely unadulterated and untouched.
