Description
From the estate of a western Pennsylvania antiques dealer retired to Tucson during the 1990's is this 19th century Pennsylvania redware crock or pantry jar, this beauty with a sturdy rim and classic configuration. The mentioned dealer handled both old American redware decorated stoneware, along with antique French country ceramics. This is obviously an example of the former, with an incised ring at the color and typical glaze for such keystone state wares - for those of lesser faith, there is an old inventory / collection label to the side with "Dover / PA." (for those who know that is in York County). Condition is quite fine for the age and traditional usage, with a nice aura of time to the surfaces. The offered jar shows charismatic evidence of its years of service, having achieved a "look" that is every bit of what you want. There is one small shallow worn over nick at the rim. No cracks or any hidden restorations. A look at the pics should give a good idea of appearance and condition - for augmenting the look of a country kitchen or bringing back memories of apple dumplings and that summer near the Susquehanna River, this will improve things nicely. Size is about 4 5/8 in. vertical and 6 7/8 in. across the mouth.Payment Terms
