Description
Interesting folk art footstool. The maple top has been steam pressed with a primitive country scene highlighted by a large country mill with trees and a pond. The whole stool was stained while the raised pattern was left unstained, giving the appearance on being inlaid. Upon close inspection, it is apparent that the wood grain remains consistent through the light and dark areas. This confirms that the design is part of the board, and not inlaid. This is really only visible under high magnification. Nice splayed Windsor style turned legs with boldly turned stretchers. Great looking unusual primitive country piece.Date: 19th century.
Size: 15 1/2″ x 10″ x 7″ tall.
Condition: Expected use wear with typical scratching. Old refinish. Traces of original surface can be seen in leg turnings.
