My three girls have no interest in the business so my five year old grandson (who is interested in antiques and dinosaurs) will be working with me for the next few weeks on a trial basis. He is trying to raise money to buy new dinosaurs. I made a deal with him that he could pick and list one item per week and that he could keep half of the money and the other half he will donate to a local school system. I told him that he will have to pick out the item, describe it and help with the photographs and listing.
I will list his description first and then clarify if needed in the description.
THIS IS AN OLD PAINTING. IT IS AN OIL PAINTING ON CANVAS AND IT IS REALLY OLD AND DARK.
IT IS A BUNCH OF FLOWERS AND A VASE ON TOP OF A TABLE. I DON'T KNOW WHAT THE FLOWERS ARE, BUT I BET MY MIMI KNOWS WHAT THEY ARE. SHE HAS A LOT OF FLOWERS AT HER HOUSE.
THE PAINTING IS REALLY BEAUTIFUL AND IT LOOKS VERY, VERY OLD.
IT IS ALSO VERY DARK AND DIRTY.
I KNOW THAT MY MOM AND MIMI WOULD CLEAN IT AND WASH IT BEFORE THEY WOULD SELL IT BUT PAPPY TELLS ME TO LEAVE IT THE WAY IT IS.
PAPPY TOLD ME THAT IS CALLED "AS FOUND" OR "ATTIC FOUND", AND THAT SOME PEOPLE WHO COLLECT ANTIQUES WILL PAY MORE FOR SOMETHING "AS FOUND".
I HOPE THAT THE PERSON WHO BUYS THIS PAINTING IS SOMEONE WHO LIKES IT "AS FOUND".
IT DOES NOT HAVE A SIGNATURE OR A DATE SO I DON'T KNOW WHO PAINTED IT BUT I KNOW THAT IT IS VERY, VERY OLD, PROBABLY OVER 150 YEARS OLD.
PAPPY TOLD ME THAT IT DATES TO AROUND 1840 AND IT IS IN THE "MANNER OF THE OLD MASTERS"
I THINK THAT MEANS IT LOOKS OLDER THAN IT REALLY IS.
IT IS IN VERY NICE CONDITION BUT THERE ARE A COUPLE OF VERY TINY SCRATCHES ON IT AND A SMALL HOLE.
IT IS NOT IN A FRAME.
IT MEASURES 17 1/2" WIDE AND 14 1/2" TALL.
A VERY FINE MID 19TH CENTURY OIL ON CANVAS PAINTING OF A VASE AND FLOWERS ON A TABLE.
AMERICAN, CIRCA 1840-1850 IN THE MANNER OF AN OLD MASTER.
IT IS AS FOUND AND STILL ON ITS ORIGINAL STRETCHERS.
IT IS DIRTY AND GRUNGY AND THERE ARE A COUPLE OF OLD REPAIRS AND SOME VERY MINOR IN-PAINTING THROUGHOUT,
IT HAS A GREAT EARLY LOOK AND COULD BE HUNG AS IS WITHOUT A FRAME OR WITHOUT BEING CLEANED.
It is unsigned.
IT IS COMPLETELY UNTOUCHED
17 1/2" wide and 14 1/2" tall.
The entire piece has not been cleaned or restored.
Typical wear and imperfections with age.
