    AN EXTREMELY RARE LATE 18TH OR EARLY 19TH CENTURY DECORATED AMERICAN WROUGHT IRON FIREPLACE POT COVER OR LID with A GREAT "BIRD OF PARADISE" DECORATED HANDLE. PENNSYLVANIA GERMAN FOLD ART DESIGN, PA, CIRCA 1780-1820, IN A WONDERFUL OLD SURFACE AND PATINA.
    A Great early piece of Early American Iron.
    These highly decorative pieces were used to cover cooking vessels while they were on the hearth. Because of their very use, VERY FEW OF THESE EARLY PIECES HAVE SURVIVED.
    MOST OF THESE WERE MADE AS GIFTS.
    This extremely rare cover is entirely hand wrought. The "BIRD OF PARADISE" DECORATED HANDLE IS THE VERY BEST.
    It is attached by a peened end and is still tight.
    It is 6" across and with the handle it is 1 1/2" tall.
