    WE SOLD A NEAR MATCHING SIDE-CHAIR TO THIS PIECE A FEW WEEKS AGO.
    AN EXTREMELY RARE AND VERY EARLY 18TH CENTURY BANNISTER BACK ARMCHAIR IN POPLAR AND ASH, Circa 1720-1740 WITH RELATED TURNINGS AND CHARACTERISTICS OF SIMILAR DOCUMENTED BANNISTER BACK CHAIRS COMING FROM THE BARNSTABLE AREA OF CAPE COD.
    IT HAS GREAT EARLY "CURVED" SHAPED TOP AND BOTTOM CRESTS AND FOUR EXTREMELY BOLD CONFORMING BANNISTERS.
    IT HAS FANTASTIC BALL AND ACORN FINIALS AND ABOUT THE BEST STRETCHERS.
    THE CHAIR HAS WONDERFUL CARVED ARMS WITH VERY RARE AND EARLY ADDED MEDIAL SUPPORT ARMS UNDERNEATH.
    THE ENTIRE CHAIR IS IN A LATER BLACK REPAINT WITH TRACES OF AN OLD BLACK AND RED BENEATH.
    VERY BOLD EARLY CHAIR WITH A CANTED AND TURNED BACK AND CURVED CRESTS.
    THE CANTED, TURNED BACK IS QUITE UNUSUAL FOR THIS PERIOD. GENERALLY WE SEE THE CANT ON A BLOCK TURNED CHAIR.
    THIS IS AN EXTREMELY BOLD EARLY CHAIR MEASURING OVER 4 FEET TALL AND OVER 2 FEET WIDE.
    The rush seat dates to the early 20th century.
    This great chair stands 48 1/2" tall. The seat height is 17 1/2" and is 24" across.
