Vintage Galvanized Egg Postal Shipping Crate People Hardware Washington DC

Description

Up for auction a vintage galvanized steel 2 dozen egg postal shipping crate from People Hardware in Washington DC.  Addressed to Mr Tate Ostwaut in Statesville, NC from Washington DC.  The crate has the shipping label/info sheet, cardboard cover, twenty four (24) cardboard egg cradles and paper packing.
The crate measures 13 1/4" wide from side to side, 9 3/16" from top to bottom, 3 1/4" deep from lid to bottom and weighs 2.13 pounds prior to packing for shipping.  Will ship in a 17x13x4 box.
This box is in good used vintage condition with wear, rubs and discoloration consistent with age and use.  There is some white spots on the lid and black spots on the bottom.  Also see some water staining, scratches and the lettering is faded.  The hinges and latch are both intact and work but the latch is a bit stiff and requires some pressure on the lid to slide completely closed.  The cardboard cover is discolored, has damage and is separating at the corners.  Also has some bends, folds and curling.  All the egg cradles are intact and look to be in good shape.  Due the fragility of the packing paper, I have not opened or flattened it.
